wearing a lab coat

I am toying with the idea of buying a white lab coat and wearing it while
lecturing.
I do not at this time teach a lab class,but I just thought it might make
me look more like a scientist.
Any thoughts on this as to sense of integrity and student reactions?
Are there tipsters out out who wear a lab coat while lecturing?
Coming to think of it ,this might be a good way to keep dust ckalk
flakes off my clothes.
