Dear Tipsters,

A friend forwarded to me two recent postings regarding
SuperLab LT. My name is Hisham and I am the founder and
president of Cedrus Corporation, SuperLab's publisher.

Some of the complaints concerned the expiration of SuperLab LT.
In trying to avoid delays in shipping SuperLab LT, the expiration
date on the CD-ROM was hard-coded instead of it being 5 months
from the start of installation. This has caused problems for
people purchasing SuperLab LT in, say, November, and then find it
expiring at the end of January.

Next fall's edition will fix this problem and make it work as
advertised -- 5 months from installation time. I apologize
for any inconvenience that this may have caused.

While on the subject of expiration dates, I would like to
request feedback from other Tipsters. The reason we put
an expiration date on the CD-ROM is because it includes a
full, unrestricted version of SuperLab Pro. It was the only
way we could think of to take a $595 product and make it
affordable to students.

Some professors love the fact that SuperLab Pro is available
to students and that they can do their own experiments from
scratch. Others don't care for it and consequently find
the expiration date very, very annoying. I would like to
solicit your opinion on how to do things differently. Some
of the ideas on the table are:

  - Remove SuperLab Pro from the CD-ROM and get rid of the
expiration date. You'd only be able to run the existing
     experiments on the CD-ROM.

  - Keep SuperLab Pro on the CD-ROM, remove the expiration
date, but limit its capabilities. For example, it would
allow a maximum of 30-50 trials, would not work with I/O
     cards, etc.

I am open to other options and ideas, and would love to hear
them. Please let me know what your thoughts are.

Another complaint posted on TIPS is that a user sent us email
but didn't hear back from us. I deeply apologize for this.
Over the years, Cedrus has established a very solid reputation
for its tech support. But the last few months have been
difficult for us due to growing pains -- the company has
recorded a 36% jump in revenues for the third year in a row.
While many companies would love to be in our shoes, such
growth needs to be managed and always brings with it its
own difficulties. We'll do our best to outgrow our growing
pains. :-)

I'll look forward to your feedbacks and thoughts on
expiration dates.

Best wishes,

                         Hisham.
