Thanks to all of you who responded to my request for advice regarding my student's request for a letter supporting this request. It appears that my University does allow one to petition for a retroactive withdrawal of classes and/or semesters. I've decided (with your help) to decline the invitation to write the letter of support. I believe in second chances and would certainly have written the letter if there were extenuating cicumstances, which I just don't see in this case. Best- susan
