To Mike, because it's not "important?"  That is, it's not going to be on a 
test.  Students
have been trained to think that way.  Did we as students?

To Bob, I asked my students that question once.  Here's some of their answers:  
"She
doesn't know mine, why should I know hers;"  "He never looks at us, only at the
blackboard" "Is that important?"  "He doesn't interact with us."  "Never 
thought about
it."  "She so cold and distant."  Etc Etc Etc   Totally unscientific.

That's a good question, but I think that it is even more interesting that they

know the name of the instructor of a course they are currently taking is two 
weeks after
