I would say that the actions of Fareed can be subsumed under cognitive dissonance theory.There was definitely a disconnect between his award and the the stance of the ADL.This obviously created cognitive dissonance and removing the source of that dissonance was a way to solve the problem.Returning the medal can be construed as a very effective way to manage the issue.Isn't this related to psychology?
