Think you know? Well, check out this website:

Now answer this question:

When did the colonies declare independence?

(a) July 2, 1776
(b) July 4, 1776
(c) July 8, 1776
(d) July 19, 1776
(e) January, 1777
(g) It depends upon how obsessive compulsive one is about
administrative detail -- an argument can be made for any of
the above dates.

For more detail on the Declaration of Independence, there
is a Wikipedia entry (yadda-yadda); see:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_Declaration_of_Independence

However, a question arises: Did Thomas Jefferson engage in
plagiarism when he wrote the Declaration?

See the "Influences" section in the Wikipedia entry.

P.S. It should be acknowledged that the date that one declares
Independence is less important than the date one actually achieves
it, in this case September 3, 1783. But we don't appear to celebrate
that date. For more on the American Revolution, see the Wikipedia
entry (yadda-yadda):
