I think that what sticks is that "pills and potions" are "easy" and "might
work." Because sadly there seems to be a hard-wired tendency
to want to sit on our behinds and have someone else fix it for us.

Again, I am not a complete pill atheist. They do help some people with some
things.

But the current trends of popular application are far broader than the evidence
merits.

And the long-term price is very dear.

What I find so intriguing about your comment Nancy is that this reality
hould be so obvious to us all due to decades of research that have
evealed what an amazingly adaptable (i.e. plastic) brain we have that is
onstantly modifying it's structure and chemistry to effectively deal with
onstantly changing circumstances and challenges. Why do we seem to need
o learn this over and over again? There are a good number of studies
onducted by researchers on how changes in our cognition's and behaviors
hange our brain chemistry and brain interconnections. What amazing
ossibilities such implies. However, sadly it appears that, to the
ontrary, the hard-wired perspective seems easier for the public as well
s many folks in our field to latch on to.

I think the problem is that our lifestyle influences our neurochemistry
 and vise-versa.

So the origin is hard to discern.
