Psychoanalytic theory has led to a new technique for autistic kids in
France:

The alleged goal of this technique, as defined by proponents of this
therapy, is to “allow the child to rid him- or herself progressively of
its pathological defense mechanisms against archaic anxieties.”

Here's the first part of a five-part investigative film on the the
application of psychoanalytic ideas to autism in France. "50 years of
progress in science do not seem to have had any influence on their
dogmatism":

Try sampling 3 mins through 4 mins...

You thought the "refrigerator mother" theory was dead and buried? Not
in France:

Part 3: "Bruno Bettelheim the victim of injustice"

The certitude with which various psychoanalysts propound their unlikely
notions in these films is remarkable.
