Hi

Without looking at the paper, we need to be cautious about the implication of
this. What is it that people think of when asked about a "conservative"
position on psychology-related topics? Might they be concerned about
conservative biases that could influence conclusions and explanations? Is it
"biased" to be concerned about "bias", either conservative or liberal?

For example,

religiousness and morality
reparative therapy for homosexuality
mental illness as due to sin
marriage being properly between males and females
concerns about women in the workplace, rather than at home caring for children
and family
promotion of anti-science, as surveys show conservatives to have less
confidence in science than liberals
intelligent design or other creationist views in the classroom
promotion of free enterprise over even mildly socialist governments
value of harsh punishment for criminals
...

When people of whatever ilk adopt worldviews that are not supportable by reason
or evidence, what is it that academics are suppose to do? Turn the other cheek?

Take care
Jim

Not to speak of the scientific struggle: how are we supposed to know what's
what if editors and grantors are politically biased?

Sheesh.... I mean, I understand that at root we are all biased. But we know
this and should fight against it.

Subject: [tips] Survey finds that social psychologists admit to
anti-conservative bias | Inside Higher Ed

It looks like social psychology is about to become the primary site of a
potentially nasty political struggle, at least in the US. A
soon-to-be-published survey shows sizeable minorities of social psychologists
willing to admit that a conservative perspective would make them less likely to
accept a journal submission, recommend a grant proposal, or hire a job
applicant.

How are conservative legislators likely to respond?
