It is always nice when I get to see the faces and hear the voices of people who I have discussed and debated with for so long via e-mail. Michael gave a fine talk on the real history of the development of psychology at NYU. As I said to him at the time, it is often a challenge for historians to get all the details right about particular institutions, especially when they are having to deal with several at a time (as Michael's paper showed with respect to NYU). There is nothing like having a local person do the basic history of an institution because they have ready access the archival materials that are not always easily available to the more distant historian. Being local, they can go back to the sources again and again as new questions and inconsistencies arise. Consider it for your own school. Best, Chris --- Christopher D.
