On Fri, 12 Apr 2013, Christopher Green went:

In short, adopting your opponent's high-status vocabulary and then
twisting it to your own purposes is an often successful diversionary
tactic

This reminds me, tangentially, of one of the most nefarious and
effective presto-change-o tricks to have been inflicted upon US
political discourse in decades: the libertarian use of "entitlements"
(in reference to Social Security and Medicare) as if it were a
psychological term rather than a legal one. This has become so
pervasive that you can now hear people try to *defend* the continued
full funding of those programs by insisting that they are "not
entitlements"!

It would be hilarious if there weren't so much at stake.
