Hi Jim-

I spend my winters in Southern California so I am fairly familiar with people's
political attitudes in this region. Sadly, this isn't seen as an "extreme"
attitude. Spend a day listening to AM talk radio and you will hear stuff that
makes this rant sound like "The voice of reason".

Here are a couple of examples:

http://www.marklevinshow.com/

http://www.michaelsavage.wnd.com/

Typical comments include things like:

"President Obama is gradually transforming America into a socialist
authoritarian state. This is the real meaning of his recent decision to grant
backdoor amnesty to young illegal immigrants. Mr. Obama is behaving like a
Latin American strongman, who asserts arbitrary power and ignores the rule of
law. He is assaulting the very pillars of our constitutional republic."

So, in answer to your question:

"I wonder what proportion of students come into classes with this kind of
extreme view as their background?"

Lots of them.

-Don.

Hi

I got onto a right wing list (BizPac Review) a few months ago. It is quite
enlightening about the “news” that some portion of the American population (and
outsiders like me) receive. A link to psychology yesterday caught my eye …

I wonder what proportion of students come into classes with this kind of
extreme view as their background? And how do they react to mainstream
psychology as a result?

Take care
