A couple of points: (1) PsycInfo is provided a few different vendors (e.g., EBSCOHost, Proquest, Ovid, etc.) and it's a good idea to mention which vendor you're using because they don't all perform the same way. After some frustration with these different interfaces at NYU, I now use the APA version of PsycInfo (I tell my students also to use this). (2) Recently I found out that PsycInfo doesn't always do what your "intuition" tell you it should do. Case in point: one might think that using "naturalistic observation" with quotes would be the best way to search for research using naturalistic observation. However, when I use the APA version of PsycInfo, when I type in *naturalistic observation* without quotes, after I'm finished typing, the keyword *naturalistic observation* is offered by the interface. If you click on this (it's in a small drop down menu), PsycInfo will locate all articles/chapters/etc. with this as a keyword tag (use all keywords as the search field). This produces 1098 hits or about 2.5 times the hits provided by "naturalistic observation". I don't know why the geniuses at APA had this programmed into PsycInfo (I assume something similar happens regardless of interface) but after the printing fiasco of the 6th edition of the APA Publication Manual, I guess one should not be surprised that something like this occurs. -Mike Palij New York University m...@nyu.edu --- You are currently subscribed to tips as: arch...@jab.org.
