One of my pet peeves in these discussion groups involves the absence of relevant information in position announcements. I'm not on the job market and am, in fact, retired but I still keep in contact with my old colleagues & when I see a relevant position announcement I forward it to several dept. chairs and ask then to pass it on to any of their faculty who might be interested. Because I have neither the time not the inclination to read every post, I'll skip those that seem seem immediately relevant to me. E-mails that say "position opening" are likely to be ignored. On the other hand, a position that says "tenure track position in clinical psychology at So & So U" or "Temporary position in development psych in the Boston area" are likely get my attention and get me to forward that announcement to relevant departments and individuals.
I know that nowaday, many candidates will apply all over the country & location doesn't matter all that much. But many others have families & other commitments and/or preferences and may consider location a primary factor. So PLEASE, when you post position announcements and if you want more good applicants, provide as much info as possible in the subject line. This is especially true for those of us who receive the digest version. Ed Edward I.
