It occurred to me I might be better off making a backup of my other
(working) DirecTiVo and using it for the new HDD in the dead DirecTiVo,
rather than use a 3 year old backup. Since the drives in both of them are
the same vintage I might as well be better prepared.

Has the maximum drive size increased from 137GB?

Pretty high actually, the Green Screen Of Death is almost always a
drive failure.
