Yanking the power cord like that should be a last resort, I don't think from all the discussion that there is anything wrong with the tivo that requires a reboot, and obviously you'll mess up any recordings going on at the time you pull the plug. How is it you watch DVDs, what buttons to you push to view them, and what buttons to get back to Tivo. Without knowing how it's wired, its hard to tell what is going on.

Cycling inputs on the TV does not solve it, but unplugging the re-inserting the HDMI cable at the back of the TV fixes it.
