I called TiVO: turns out the unit they sent me was a refurb so it probably had the 'old' software version on it (which is a bug in older software versions) SO they're sending me a 'new' one to replace this one so we'll see how this one goes (they said they're sending me a new one vs refurb so the new one will have a new version already installed on it).
