I rebooted using the Menus and it worked.  Like you say, I do this for the 
computer, I just didn't think about trying it for the TV.

I would start with a reboot, either restart the unit from the menus, or pull
the plug when it's not recording anything, and let it reboot from scratch.

These units are mostly computers, and as most know if you leave your
computer on long term, strange things can happen, rebooting often cures it.
