Tivo has in the past offered a discounted lifetime service for additional tivo units, or you can keep the unit you have, series 2 will still control a cable box or sat dish, and get a tivo HD on the family plan (lower monthly cost since it's the second unit). Another option is after buying and getting the lifetime on a new box (HD or Premier) and then sell the S2 box and it's lifetime service, people still pay a decent price for a working box with lifetime service on it.
