chsh -s /bin/bash username is all it takes on sme to give a user bash shell access
You can also download and install the usershell manager panel for the server manager that allows you to turn a users access on and off from the server manager http://www.dungog.net/sme/howto/usershell.html Also for a price from dungog.net you can get a working TMDA setup with a user-manager panel where each user can check their pending que and set vacation and forwarding options.
