No.  I am not advocating that.

Agreed.

What I am pushing for is that we build a consortium of interested 
parties, for the group to develop an RFC, and for that RFC to some 
day become a standard.  Then we just have to modify the code to act 
according to the standard and we can play well with every package 
that also adheres to the standard.

I'm sorry if I didn't make that clear before.

Agreed.  That would be the easiest short-term solution.  But I still 
think the best long-term solution is a standard.
