Indeed; one of the issues I was going to mention is that TMDA knows about a single network connection to the SMTP server. The problem is that I can configure it to connect to my outgoing server for sending challenges (since my actual mail host is configured not to relay - as per the error above) - but then if a message is confirmed, it gets delivered to me ... on the wrong machine.
