I don't run MySQL here, but when I wrote the database support I tested on a friend's box. The MySQLdb version was 0.9.2. I have both releases (0.9.1 and 0.9.2) here and the source doesn't look terribly different, at least regarding the DatabaseError exception. It looks like I'll need to dig a little deeper. If you can upgrade to 0.9.2, that might just fix the problem, though.
