Another question, port 8025 is only used when sending from a pop3 client? Squirrelmail (or any imap user) does not use this proxy, correct?
tmda-ofmipd lets a client expecting an SMTP connection run a message through the outgoing filters. Any POP3 and IMAP client running on another machine would fall into this category, unless you're using the weird IMAP-outgoing feature that Cyrus introduced a while back -- I don't know any clients that do, but hey.... They might exist. In that case, the IMAP server is the program you worry about doing the sending, see next option.
Programs, including web-mail, which run on the server itself may also support calling the MDA program (i.e. sendmail), rather than transmitting it via SMTP. In this case, have it call tmda-sendmail for the same effect.
Also, I was under the impression that TMDA would automatically put users onYou're probably thinking of dated addresses. The outgoing filter can put tagged addresses with a variety of criteria which will work regardless of whether a user is on the confirmed list or not. For example, the last command in my outgoing filter is the following:
my whitelist if I send them an email to and that reply within a time frame.
This doesn't seem to work. Do I need to configure this?
to [EMAIL PROTECTED] tag
envelope dated=10d
from bare
reply-to datedThis says that e-mails to unknown addresses get marked up. The envelope address, where bounces would arrive, is dated for 10 days -- plenty of time for a message to fail for whatever reason. Doing this means I don't need to let in messages from <>. Reply-to gets a default (mine is 5-day) dated address, so someone can reply. I leave the From address alone.
You can also auto-append people you send e-mail to (regardless of replies) with the bare=append action in your outgoing filter. I suggested an equivalent (ok=append) for the incoming filter, appending if certain criteria are met on a received message; someone said he might work on it, but that doesn't exist yet.
