Hi Kevin,
I have cts in both wrists. I had problems with my hands but never bothered much as I had so many other parts of me that bothered me more. When they did emg's on me they diagnosed the cts. I am not going to do anything about mine, unless I decide to go back to doing my tole painting, perhaps. I wear an elastic wrist band sometimes now and it helps. There are also splint type things you can buy for your wrists. I have a friend who is a full-time, head engineer for Sprint who uses a splint type one most of the time. It must work, since her job is demanding and she needs to use her hands a lot.

My father had cts in both his wrists and had both operated on with great success. He had the operations in his late 70's. Guess because he did so well I would not be afraid to have it done. But, I hate hospitals, doctors( well the idea of) and surgery, so I will probably wait until I cannot move my hands. And, I have a some problem areas in my cervical spine, so who knows if it would even help me.

That's the problem.  After all the MRI's, EMG'S, etc, the best answer
I ever got was that the lesion is 'somewhere in my mid-back'.  I never
had hand problems until a few years ago, but I've had TM since 1988,
so I'm thinking I do have carpal tunnel.  But this question is why I've put
the surgery off for so long.

Where was your lesion?  I would be concerned that your symptoms are from the TM.  My lesion was T8-9 and I have all those symptoms you mention in my hands. (and everywhere else below the waist standing with arms down)

Subject: [TMIC] OT Carpal Tunnel Syndrome

Hi all,

Hope everyone had a good weekend.

I was wondering if anyone has had surgery for carpal tunnel syndrome
and how successful it was?
I have it in both hands, with severe numbness, weakness, stiffness,
pain.  Are
these symptoms you had?

I'm also concerned that cts is the correct diagnosis because of the TM,
but
I've had EMG's and other tests which showed cts, as well as ulnar nerve
damage.

I know that someone on the list wrote that they had cts, but don't
remember
the details.

Thanks all,
Kevin
