Yes, I understand that I have become a severe lurker over the past months, but that has been partially due to working temp jobs without internet access, and then coming home and rushing through email, LiveJournal, and whatever before people started coming home and I had to do things. I think this is called...Real Life. ;p
But I felt I should make an announcement or two. I have a new job, working as a library assistant in a DC law firm. Funny thing about it--I was temping on a long-term assignment for the State Division of Parole and Probation, doing receptionist work (met some pretty nice convicts, too). I had been there five months, and they had allowed me time off to go on interviews. Most of those interviews were set up by other temp agencies. I sighed up with about five or six, and only one or two have given me rewarding jobs so far. I decided, finally to check in with one agency that offered high-end, business-type jobs in the DC area. Lo and behold, they alone sent me on a dozen interviews. Naturally, I got nothing. Near the end of July, on a Wednesday, I got a call from Rhonda, my recruiter, saying that she had shown my resume to the legal end of the agency, and one of the recruiters there, Keri, loved it. They had found what seemed like the perfect job--temp to hire, right near a Metro stop, from 9-5 M-F. I gave them permission to send my resume, and later that day, Keri called back. She said, "The law firm loves your resume. Can you start Monday?" They hadn't even wanted an interview--they wanted me that much already. And we all had a strong feeling that they just might hire me permanently. The very first day, I formed a bond with the head librarian, Raymond, who I work with directly. He was so impressed that we immediately took it to HR and asked that I be hired. The paperwork is still going through, so I'm still on payroll for the temp agency, but within the next week or two, I will be making a salary of 31K, enjoying full benefits and vacation time, and working with one of the most awesome, well-traveled people I've ever met. Who knows, one day Adam and I may join Raymond for a trip to Italy. <G> Speaking of which, Adam loves his job. He works in Northern Virginia with our good friend Lex, who got him the job. The company, formerly Affordable Computers, has now merged with Unitech to become Unitech International Inc. It's a company that rents, sells, sets up and repairs computers and computer parts. Adam and Lex not only deliver and pick up computers, they repair, re-program, re-configure, and modify. This year, they've set up for shows in Norfolk VA, Orlando FL, and in October they'll be setting up in Dallas TX. So my boy gets to travel around the country and play with computers all day. The boss, Larry, is laid-back and fun, and even though Adam may come home with a sore back from moving too many monitors (150 in 3 days), he doesn't complain. The salary, in the high-30's, is worth it, and he gets to hang out with one of our best friends and share ample use of Ill Omen, Lex's house in VA. Why Ill Omen? Because. Other than new job front, I'm still writing, and I think I'll actually have more time and opportunities to finish "Shadow Rising", finally. I'm sorry it's taken forever, but that whole Real Life thing--it's a kicker. Dawn: I'm so sorry to hear about what happened. I'm sending you love and hugs as much as one can from the East Coast. I'm sorry we haven't chatted lately--I miss our conversations. You were one of the first friends I made online, and I want to let you know I've not forgotten. GW: I think I promised you a while back that I'd keep sending updated samples of the novel--I'll get around to it. It's been a while. HT: We really need to strike up some more intellectual discussions. Those we fun! Remember all the brain-storming for fics we threw back and forth? To everyone else: You know, one of these days, they're gonna have to hold a Con in DC. That way all you people can come to me!! ;b Love and hugs all, ~Siren http://www.geocities.com/SirenFox/ * * * "I fear I'll never see you again..." "Of course you will." "But what if something happens to you?" "Hear this now. I will always come for you." "But how can you be sure?" "This is true love. Do you think this happens every day?" -- Buttercup and Westley, "The Princess Bride" "The only limits are the ones that we impose upon ourselves. Once we free our minds, the heart and soul will follow." -- Adam Paul, in a poem to Joanna Capello In this world We stand on the roof of hell, Gazing at the flowers. --Japanese Haiku _________________________________________________________________ MSN Photos is the easiest way to share and print your photos: http://photos.msn.com/support/worldwide.aspx
