his generation from what he maybe took as you implying that GenZ (or even X)
is somehow ignorant of pop culture history.
I think I tend to agree with you, Shred, that the kids of the 60's
(that is , me) would have more awareness about 40's and WWII humor than 80'
kids might (that is, most of you guys) But not so much because your
generation is anymore ingorant of history, rather because my Mom (and I
figure lots of other Moms) was right there chatting away about the
references in those old Bugs Bunny, or Droopy, or Donald Duck cartoons while
I was watching them. Some of that cultural stuff that Steve referred to
doesn't necessarily come up in history books. I learned more about the
culture of 40's from my parents than I *ever* got from a history book.
And of course, I have done the same with my kids, watching cartoons,
and sometimes imposing my running commentary until they politely thank me
for the education but would I please be quiet now and just let them watch
the cartoons. <G> Though I really believe that compared with the older
cartoons (40's, 50's) the more recent ones (from 70's forward) have so much
*less* of that political/cultural humor. Well, probably in 20 more years
Captain Planet will need entire Cliff notes to explain what that was about,
whereas Care Bears....uh....who cares?
I think Steve just took your comments a little too personally, that's
all.
