      Anthony:
Is anyone here really SERIOUSLY going to go to the comic con?

I will be going to the San Diego Con.
But not the Detroit Con, sorry but it's just not enough to make it worth
flying out from CA.
(I'm also going to TORN's Lord of the Rings Party on Oscar night in LA
in March, so I am expecting a wild year for fun events as it is. :P )

As was pointed out, a lot of us do share hotel rooms to save costs. GW
gave excellent advice.
Some points though from my experiences:
I (for one) will not share a room with more people than should be
comfortably in a room. If you want to share with 7, go for it. Last
year, we had rooms of 4, with one with 5 because Cherubae, GU Queen does
not sleep in beds, but preferably window balconeys. ;p
4 is a wonderful number. Let's face it, if you are going to spend all
that money go to San D Con, then you better have a LOT saved up, and why
be so cheap as to stay in a room filled with bodies just to save
yourself 30-40 dollars. 4 can make proper use of the bathroom, and most
importantly, the shower! Have enough towels, etc.
You also might check into sleeping habits, meaning, those that like to
stay up late and chat and carry on v. those that go to bed sooner, get
up earlier. If there's enough ppl to split into rooms that way, it makes
life happier.
Another point is that some of the single ladies are not comfortable
rooming with menfolk. So if not everyone instantly jumps to offer
places, don't take it personally! Be patient.
Another point is to decide what hotel price you are willing to pay for,
and book early if your room-mates and you want the cheap hotels due to
the fact that being a Comic con, they will be filled first. Try to get a
hotel on shuttle bus route to make getting to and from the Con easier.
Unless you are really hunting for a good deal, but keep in mind you'll
have to drive into the Con every day and pay for parking.

It's best to pay in advance for the hotel room.
It's clearly improper to stiff the person who's footing the room. If you
pay month(s) in advance for the Con registration, which is about 50
bucks, and pay ahead for the hotel room share, then it's easier to deal
with the high cost of food and still have shopping money when you
actually get to the Con. (Let alone transportation costs to San D.) You
won't end up at the Con going--ooh I want to BUY this, but I have to pay
for my hotel room!
You'll be able to shop within your means and have your debt obligations
to another already prepaid. :D

Lastly, also in the past, there's been a webpage to organize the
information.
Amusingly enough, inspired by Roseangelo, I am running the webpages
organizing information for the LotR Fan Club Members attending the TORN
Party, and our other assorted weekend events. (And if luck is with me,
when I get back those pages will then contain pics of HOPEFULLY some
LotR cast and crew for those of us TMNT fans that are also LotR fans to
enjoy. I figured by now, everyone that wanted to see the TMNT gang at
last year's San D Con has done so.)
The websites help with who's going, what dates for arrival, departure,
hotel, etc.

If you want to see what sort of stuff I've been setting up. Our TMNT
group is not so large, we have tend to be around 12-15 maxiumum in any
given year. :)

Anyway, I hope you make it. San D Con is really amazing and intense. You
should look into Advance Registration, which should be starting soon. It
means you can go to Preview Night, which is Wed. evening. Just be ready
for a HUGE convention. Last year they claimed they had 60,000 ppl or so.
:)
