Just saw something really interesting while engaging in some eep-opp-ooping (aka: Channel surfing). Came across the CBC (Canadian Broadcasting Corporation), in the middle of an awards show.
Well, c'mon, you didn't think you Yanks had all the fun, when it came to awards shows, did you? This time, it was the Genie awards (Canada's answer to the Oscars). Normally, I skip past these things. I've hardly seen any "blockbuster" movies this past year, how many Canadian made films do you think I've seen? Not terribly patriotic, I know. Anywho, they were doing the "Best Supporting Actor" category. For some reason, who knows why, I actually stopped and watched for a few seconds. It was interesting to see the variety of characters...and, naturally, mulitple languages. Imagine my surprise when the final nominee was Elias Koteas, for his work in a movie called "Ararat". Well, the 10 seconds that they showed was certainly not enough for me to be able to say that he deserved the award...but, apparently, the entire movie was enough to convince "The Academy". Elias WON!! He stepped up to make his acceptance speech and one of the first things he said was along the lines of "I have no idea what to say, I was kind of hoping they wouldn't call my name": He fumbled through a speech, got some chuckles and walked off, holding his award. I have one comment to make...if he ever ends up playing Casey again, he'll be needing a wig. He's wearing his hair short these days (along the lines of Whit), but, um, his forehead is trying to reach the back of his head, by going over the top. Here's a link to some video clips of the nominees (I have no idea what's there, haven't checked it, myself): http://www.cbc.ca/genies/supactor.html Here's the official awards page...with a picture: http://www.genieawards.ca/genie23/noms.cfm?catid=19000 Cool, huh? Raph "> (mmm...Sour Cream & Onion popcorn...)
