As other people said, it was the original action figures. The reason? Well, my brother always insisted that the Turtles all has the same personality and looked alike, so I suppose it was so they would be distinguishable.
I really like the fact that they are different shades in the new toon. For some reason, it just makes sense to me--maybe because I have the old action figures ingrained in my head. --Karai
