Their work is really impressive and very inspiring indeed. Whether you meet
them on New Year's eve or not, it would be a great opportunity to meet
otherwise.

Hello Friends,
Greetings.
It seems there is a time for anything and only when it ticks, we get
to do the things.
If you remember I mailed long back that one of my distant relatives
runs a mentally retarded home. I couldn't visit all these years.
Today I visited her. (Indirectly thanks to Divya. As I planned to
visit Divya in Sec'bad, I thought of taking my mother to her
relative's house so that I too will get a chance to know about the
home that she has set up).
I am amazed by the concept. Mrs. Manjula Kalyan is a trained person
and she worked for NIMH for many years. As the parents of the girls
used to worry on who will take care of their children once they die,
she began to think and then finally made up her mind to set up homes
for these girls. Eight girls stay at one home as if they reside in
their own homes with family members. Overall 190 girls are there.
Regular hours are 9 am to 4:30 pm. Saturdays also they work but most
of the time they devote for other works like cleaning the house,
washing clothes, ironing etc., like we do. So she says that weekdays
ae preferable and Jan 1st is the working day for them.
As I visited them late in the evening I couldn't visit those homes.
I am going there the coming sunday.
There are many more related to this visit:
1. Mrs. Manjula knows Amrapali Acharya's husband's parents. They are
their neighbours.
2. I came to know that one person who is also a relative is working
in Army (in Assam) and he came here for holidays. (In fact, I
decided to go the coming sunday itself because of this reason :) )
3. Mrs. Manjula's husband also worked in Air Force and he is also a
recipient of many awards. Didn't get a chance to talk to him today.
4. Shiva Shankar of Sankalp group visited them long back. When I
told her about our group, our activities and BOSF, she admired and
appreciated. She also told that two young guys came to her with a
wish to educate poor kids and donated 10,000 rs. to Swayamkrushi.
With the details she gave, I thought it might be Shiva and his
friends and it is so only.
5. I asked her about the requirement of the girls there so that we
can provide them once. She said that they have enough of dresses and
so they do not need dresses any more. She said she will let me know
their requirements.
6. She is a very senior person in this field and govt. assigns her
the responsibility of training the volunteers about dealing with
mentally retarded children and also to inspect homes in other
districts.
7. Tomorrow at 1:30 pm, there is a program about their organization
in Bhakti Channel. Do watch it.
Shall we go to Swayamkrushi for the New Year Celebrations?
Thank you.
with regards,
Prasanthi.
