source parameter to compile method called with mangled file path

This is only a problem in relation to bug 6908. I currently have to 
determine the compiler output directory based on the source filename
since the setOutputDir is called with a null parameter. The duplicated
backslash is preventing me from cleanly seperating the filename from the
directory without specifically having to check for the double backslash
(which might be a problem if this bug is fixed....)
