Not sure why it cannot be disabled, we can use a configuration parameter, the same way the reloadable attribute is used for the Context, there could be another parameter called JspReloadable or something within that context. Sam

It was suggested that background compiling in a separate thread be added (along with the background thread detecting file changes). This might meet your needs by reducing the latency due to checking for recompile to just a boolean test.
