For example, Xalan 2.4.1 comes with Xerces 2.2.0. My experience is that mixing the 2 latest versions produces weird bugs in Xalan, unless the combination is blessed by Xalan.

If you download
http://xml.apache.org/dist/xerces-j/Xerces-J-tools.2.3.0.tar.gz (to get
the minimal), you will find a version of xalan also (I guess is the
latest).
