That is very strange. I untarred from the posted binary "jakarta-tomcat-5.0.16.tar.gz" to the target directory, then modified server.xml. The error happened until I copied those two files to common.

I had the same problem. I can't reproduce that. I installed tomcat 5.0.16 on solaris just fine a few minutes ago. The balancer app is privileged so it can see server/lib.
