I should have read my email before sending it as i doesn't make much sense. :-)
I'm using Tomcat-5. I've set unpackwars to True. I've deployed my war through the manager interface.
But as far as i can see the only way to redeploy the war is to undeploy it and the redeploy it again. (I believe this has the effect of deleting the unpacked war, and the unzipping it again when you deploy it).
Is there a better way to set up Tomcat so that i can achieve this.

Upgrade to Tomcat-5. It explodes war files by default...even on a Tomcat manager deploy. I would still rethink using a technology that violates the J2EE by requriing access to the file sytem in order to work properly.
