Hi, TC 5.5 not only can but does use the Eclipse JDT compiler by default. It's not a trivial back-port to the 5.0 branch, but it's of course possible, and you don't even have to mess with that many classes. But you would need to write some code and build your own custom tomcat version.
You'd need to modify org.apache.jasper.compiler.Compiler to use JDT instead of Ant. Take a look at that class' code.
