Running xp pro (all service packs and mods installed), jdk 1.4.2, JAVA_HOME,
CATALINA_HOME both defined (user and system).

when trying to install either 5.0.28 (.exe download) or 5.0.29 installation
halts with a NO JVM message.

JVM is clearly on system at path C:\Sun\Appserver\jdk\bin. I can run java and
javac from a command tool anywhere in my system so JVM is there and system can
find it. In fact during the install of the 5.0.x binaries the install shield
tool lists the correct path to the jvm and then when the 'next' button is hit
the NO JVM message appears. Installation dies at that point.

When attempting to run with 4.1.31 the install works but an attempt to bring up
tomcat http://localhost:8080 results in a java stack dump which indicates a
compilation error - again it looks like javac is not being found (though
apparently the jvm is being found as it is running).

I suspect that this problem may be tied to the xp pro service packs as another
xp pro machine without the service packs accepts the installations and does
run. nothing from ms surprises me anymore.

any help would be greatly appreciated, I don't care which tomcat i get
working. for my purposes either 4.1.31 or 5.x is more than sufficient.

kindest,

reddog
