It sounds like you're just getting started with all of these technologies. If that is indeed the case, you'd do yourself a favor to start small: review the servlet and JSP specs; work with Tomcat on its own; then add Apache (if you need it); then add JBoss (presumably for EJB, etc). The servlet spec is available at java.sun.com, and the Tomcat docs are on the same site where you found this mailing list.
