I encountered something similar with building Tomcat 3.2.4. It appears that it used "relative paths" to find jar files. Keep in mind these relative paths are based on what you have set the following environment variables to JAKARTA_HOME, JAVA_HOME and ANT_HOME. You will find the CRIMSON.jar and JAXP.jar created for you when you use Jakart-ant. Copy these files to the location its looking for them when you do your Tomcat build.
