I would imagine that performance would be the same because you really just need something to run as a service and start java. Once java is started it is the same as running catalina.bat(except that you run as user 'system').
I have been using jk_nt_service in production with tc4.0.1 since december with no problems. I have had it on my test server even longer without problems.
