There are several differences. First, the Sun Studio IDE uses a dbx based debugger and provides a NetBeans module for the Analyzer. There is also some rebranding, but that isn't a functional change. The current Sun Studio 12 release is based on NetBeans 5.5.1.
NetBeans C/C++ releases more often, uses the gdb debugger, and its current release is 6.1. With NetBeans you'll have faster turnaround on bugs, not just C/C++ related bugs but also NetBeans related bugs. New C/C++ features make it into a NetBeans release much sooner than a Sun Studio IDE release. -- This message posted from opensolaris.org
