I tried to change some lines in the Makefile.master that defines which compiler to use (switched _cc to _gcc and supplied the path to /usr/swf/ for as and ld).
However, when I ran dmake to compile the kernel"as" complained about illegal flags being used. This approach seem very difficult considering the amount of switches present in the makefile. I was hoping that there was a more general way, maybe by editing (or augmenting) opensolaris.sh that is passed to "bldenv".
