I'm sorry. I forget to mention that I also created symbolic links for files in
/usr/local/gcc-4.3.2/lib and include to /usr/local/lib and include. My intent
was to make it look as if GCC was installed to /usr/local but still give me an
uninstall option.

Well, this started largely because I'm trying to compile samba-3.2.6 and that
was giving me linker usage errors with the bundled 'gcc'. I figured that if
samba doesn't like Sun's 'ld' then I'd try GNU's and a later version of GCC
while I was at it.

One could says that the samba linker usage errors are a samba problem. But I'm
getting GNU 'ld' errors with everything. Besides, the samba linker usage errors
went away with the new GCC, but was replaced by the same "library not found"
errors everything is getting now.
