Hi Gordon, I am an xemacs/emacs user (and have been using emacs since before vi was written). I have built a recent version of emacs and xemacs on opensolaris, and am very underwhelmed when I compare it to what was shipped with SunStudio. The functionality is just different enough to be a pain to work with. Why can't you simply ship the version that was being shipped with Sun Studio? It worked fine.
Regardless, I am happy to be a beta user. To be honest, I am not very concerned about fonts. I like to run my shells, ssh/telnet sessions all in emacs. I can do this with the version of emacs/xemacs I built, but it does not work as well as I would like (and I'm not a lisp programmer, so do not want to take the time to figure out what needs to be changed). I guess my idea of the default settings, and other people's ideas are different, but the only thing I needed to do with the version from Sun Studio was to add cscope functionality. Good luck getting everyone to agree on what are the best default settings. There have been a few times when I (shudder) found that vi worked better!!! (ugh). You don't have any emacs users? How do you do development/debugging/source browsing??? Regards, max Gordon Prieur wrote: > Hi, > > I'm attempting to package XEmacs (21.4.21) for the OpenSolaris > repository.
