I wondered what the current plans are for a linker to use for the
OpenSolaris/PowerPC port. I can think of two alternatives:

* Use GNU ld and provide a linker wrapper (lw, analogous to aw and cw in
SUNWonbld) to map from Sun ld options to gld options as far as possible.

* Port Sun ld and ld.so (actually, all of usr/src/cmd/sgs) to ppc.

The first alternative might be a way to get up and running relatively
quickly, but considering that the whole build environment relies heavily on
the features of Sun ld (which aren't necessary available in GNU ld), and
ld.so will be needed anyway, the second approach is certainly best long-term.

Providing support for the missing features in GNU ld might be beneficial as
well, though (and not only for ppc).

How as this handled during the amd64 bringup, btw.?
