While it may not be an every day thing, this is common enough on topband so that anyone seriously attempting to work DX there should be familiar with what is meant. "12" is short for "QSX 12" which is short for "QSX 1812". Time is of the essence on a DXpedition so abbreviations are used wherever possible.
