Am I the only one bothered by seeing ads for 5 KW amplifiers?
Probably. Most people don't care what something can do, compared to how they use it.

For me, that's just overhead. If I were to run the limit, I know the amp is loafing, and I'd never give it a second thought, unlike an old amp I have from the late 20's that glows blue when running at maybe 25%. Personally, I run 100W, have never run more. If I can hear them, I can work them.

I have several amps, all given to me, smallest about 600W, largest, 2kW maybe, then industrial to 40kW. Aside from testing one, once, they sit on a shelf, unused.

Like someone mentioned, vehicles. Mine is spec'd to 160, then the chart describes "Theoretical Maximum Speed", with two gears to go. The chart goes to 190, the other speeds, off the chart, in the low 200's. I think the lack of documentation is due to being an "off the shelf" family sedan.

I got it up to 95 once. It's nice to know I won't break it when running at 30-50%.
