Terry, try the Refresh (F5) in the Navigator pane.  The message is just saying that a file exists that doesn't have metadata in the .project file. If that fails, I'd suggest removing .DS_Store (dang Macs and their metadata files :) ), refresh and try again. (Sorry this is late.
