 I think I'm also in favour of going with Hello71's option 1C. For the
 sanitiser stuff, 2B is probably a better choice and probably we should
 have some configure.ac checks that we're either building the C with clang
 or else have a new enough GCC. I have no opinion on the "run a single
 crate's tests" thing—which should probably be a separate issue—other than,
 yes, we should do that, and in this ticket we should make sure that we
 don't do anything that will make doing that more difficult.
